Its natural range is Eastern USA from Maine in the north, Iowa and Texas in the west, and Florida in the South. It prefers wet areas like seepages. It is fairly common on the Refuge is this type of habitat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.botanybill.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC00260.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5343 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.botanybill.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC00260-300x217.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.botanybill.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC00260-300x217.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.botanybill.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC00260-768x555.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.botanybill.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC00260-1024x740.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is a nothospecies, or a self-reproducing hybrid of <strong><em>Viola macloskeyi<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>Viola lanceoalata<\/em><\/strong>. The former is not known from the Refuge, while the latter is.
