Its scientific name is <em>Cassida rubiginosa <\/em>and it is native to Eurasia. From what I understand, this beetle was introduced to Quebec in 1901 as a control for thistles.<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.botanybill.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSC00624.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-3553 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.botanybill.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSC00624-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"DSC00624\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.botanybill.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSC00624-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blog.botanybill.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSC00624-1x1.jpg 1w, https:\/\/blog.botanybill.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSC00624.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Thistle Tortoise Beetle<\/strong> has spread throughout North America as far west as Colorado and Alberta and to the East along the Atlantic Coast. It was introduced into New Zealand in 2006.
