Last year I found a hybrid oak at Loblolly Fork and identified it as Quercus X subfalcata Trel. Only it was not bearing any acorns. Today I went back to see if it was producing acorns this year and it was! This is a cross between the Willow Oak (Quercus phellos) and the Southern Red Oak (Quercus falcata). The leaves are basically the same as the Willow oak in shape except that the lateral margins of most leaves have small lobes. Some of the lobes resemble smaller versions of the ones found on the Southern Red Oak. The acorns are of intermediate size. Both parents were present at this location.
